The Four Food Groups


Milk Group:  Rich in Calcium,Includes milk and milk products like cheese, yogurt, etc.
Bread/Cereal Group:  Rich in B vitamins, complex carbohydrates and fiber.
Meat Group:  Rich in proteins and minerals,Includes meat, fish, poultry and eggs.
Fruit/Vegetable Group:  Rich in vitamins A and C.
Since there is no perfect food, it is important to eat a variety of foods from all the food groups to maintain a nutritionally balanced diet. The Food Guide Pyramid develped by the U.S. Department of Agriculture provides information on the recommended intakes from each group.
